New antiquities and pup's for grunty vintage tone

Anyone tried the antiquities 11 series from semour duncan? Im looking at beefing up my pickups to some SSL-5 or SHR-1 Hot rails for the neck and SHL-11 humbuckers for the bridge. Basically trying to achieve a warm vintage tone with attitude/grunt and diversity.

Anyone got similar set ups or advice/experiences. I get the feeling people arnt overly satisfied with their humbuckers! Can we get away with singles?

Antiquities are quite mellow, they aim to replicate the sound of an old pickup with aged magnets.

In relation to a few things you've asked, single coils work well with Fuzz pedals. A lot more so than Distortion. Fuzz warms the bright/trebly sound up.

Interestingly, any new Jazzmasters J Mascis buys he fits with Antiquities. Partly because he is used to that sound but i dare say the mellow nature works better with high gain.

+1 also mellower pickups give you a much better clean tone IMO

Maybe an antiquity in the neck and a hummer for the bridge? that could be diverse.

Hmmm.. Be careful concerning volume balance. Something like a Seymour Duncan Invader will bury an Antiquity Single Coil.

I just put some Antiquity II's in my Jaguar last week, sounds amazing! Granted a diff sound, but, still, they even put dust in the pick ups to help replicate the sound.

how would you describe them? creamy? bright? grunty? They are aged alnico magnets yes?
