Right, I've been an advocate of the Akai Headrush looper/ delay for a while now, but I finally have something genuinely really bad to say about it, and it bothers me that it's taken me this long to realise it.
Basically, the Zilla cab arrived today, along with the rest of my patch lead kit, which is all set up and working beautifully (pics to come). Unfortunately, in checking that all my newly soldering patch leads were fine, I found that the Headrush is actually the cause of rather a lot of the noise in my signal chain. See it's pretty much always on, really bad buffered bypass so that it can do trails when you switch it off. as I turn my amp up, I get hiss that gets louder and louder (obviously, but it's rather annoying). That hiss isn't there with the Headrush out of the chain. I always assumed it was just my amp, and there was nothing I could do about it.
Looks like I'll need to get a new looper at some point then. 😕
The good news though, is that the combination of new cab and new patch leads has really woken my clean tone up, it's far more clear and articulate than ever before. I'm still waiting for the OLCircuits Orange Peel to arrive (it's at my friend's place down in London, she's gonna paint it then send it up to me), and once I've got and built that I'll see about throwing a demo together of all my new crap. 😀
