Difference is, high gain amps rarely come in small packages, so you're kinda lumped with big amps. And if you have a big amp, you usually need a big enough cab to put it on. If you want a matching one, then you're lumped with a 4x12.
Plus, my crate is damn cheap, even less than a new blackstar or tiny terror for example. And about having the amp on one, its a master volume amp so you never get that 'cranked sound' which isn't necessarily desirable.
And there's never a problem with too much headroom.
If they did a really high gain 5-15w tube amp in head or combo form, it would be mine right now.
