question about pots

first time posting, hi everyone. i have had a jag-stang for a long time, and i love it. i have had a sd jb in the bridge for a while and recently bought a curtis novak widerange style pickup for the neck. i have yet to have it installed but it occurred to me that i should replace the pots. this has lead to other questions...

what size pots does the jag-stang have stock?

what size do people recommend?

has anyone taken out the tone control? cause i think im gonna. sonic youth style.

500k pots, 0.22 orange drop cap is what you want. I feel like i've typed that 100 times this year alone, is the search function broked? 😆

-- 2 questions:

1. That's for tone control, right? It's not clear since the prior poster asked about both volume and tone controls.

2. I have a Jag HH. I want to put a treble bleed in the volume control and also add more taper (there's hardly any in the stock volume pot). Can I use the TVJones vol control w/ treble bleed mod -- just got off the phone with them and they said it's a 500k pot w/ 150k resister and .001 capacitor -- would that work ok for my Jag HH?

Instead of making a new thread I thought it best to quote this one as I think It holds the key to the ultimate Tonage possibilty! askani777 asked above if anyone had removed the tone control? Pardon my ignorance but I'm not sure if this has been answered...via the orange cap reply?! I'm not sure what this is. Is this what one would use to replace the tone control or do I have to dig the ol' soldering iron out and disconnect the tone from the volume?

Yes I understand they use alternative tunings (been listening to the yoof since 92' and my stang has been in the sunday tuning for 10 years) but not all their songs are alt tuned yet "that" tone is still there. Obviously alot goes into getting the right tone such as choosing the right amps and effects or a well placed drumstick ya 😉. Would I be right in guessing that the one common denominator in all their recordings is the removal of the tone control on all or most of their guitars?

Anyway it's not SY's tone i'm trying to emulate, though it would be very nice indeed, I'd rather get me some early Malkmus double cream tone who coincidentally I've heard likes to remove the tone from his strat aswell as using alt tunings, not alot mind. So, is this tone removal all it's cracked up to be or what?

I'm in the market for a fender deluxe reverb but I'd like to try the tone removal before I stump up the wads of cash for this beast or should I get the amp first?! I'm all over the shop here!! 😕

ed: Just read about "no load pots" which apparently can bypass the tone 😲

re ed: Nevermind. I've removed the tone from my old 80's hair guitar....I am awesome 🤮
