DOD Pedals - What do you think?

I've heard it go both ways. Some people hate DOD pedals, others love 'em.

Some people are particular, "I only like 'Made in America' DODs." Meanwhile, other people will use any pedal you give them with joy, "Because a pedal is a pedal is a pedal."

While I tend to be from the "pedal is a pedal is a pedal" mindset (no real brand loyalty), I have had an especially enjoyable time with DOD pedals. The FX90 sounds really good, as does the FX13*. Both are made in America, if that matters.

The fact is, if a pedal is sturdy and works, I don't care what it does or what it is (analog, digital, whatever), I'll use it 😁 . I'm just wondering about DODs because they seem very polarizing.

*Haven't actually gotten this yet, but I demo'd it and put money down. Should be getting it within the next week

For the longest time, all I ever owned were 80's, magnesium cased DOD pedals. That's all I Coudl afford, and set-up right they sounded incredible. My first pedalboard had those on them (DOD FX-56B Super American Metal and a DOD FX-80B Compressor Sustainer).

I still use one, I have a DOD FX-75B Stereo Flanger on my board at the moment, with the LFO sweeps on the board underneath modified to get that "water against aluminum siding" kind of sound when I want it.

I love these because you can pick 'em up for roughly 30 a piece on MusicGoRound.

I dun really have too much of an opinion about DOD's except that a DOD Grunge with every knob turned up to maximum through a Line 6 amp, which has been mic'd up and sent to a pretty loud PA system sounds BAD.

ya I would've thought it was common knowledge too, but apparently not since I had to involuntarily experience it...... it hurt my earzes...... a lot.......

Yeah the fx90 is great, I have one in a closet that I use for recordings. It's a very fragile pedal and I worry about gigging with it for fear of breaking it. But in the studio it does the dark analog delay thing perfectly.

I think I"ll make an exception on the "Genre Series" pedals they had going in the 90's...we had one of those Death Metal pedals back when I played in LIthium....good god that thing was awful, especially run DI into a PA system with the lows and highs on 10 with a Strat going through it. Our 3rd guitarist seemed to really like sounding like a washing machine motor.

I used to have the DOD Classic Fuzz, ended up selling it to a mate, it didn't really do anything for me. Think it was supposed to sound like a Fuzz Face, but it was just a bit too fizzy and sharp for me.

This. Of course they went over to Digitech eventually, i actually had a Digitech model with 'Dod' on the black footswitches. Only got the all-Dod one left now though.

Oh, and @Stevie:

Why do you think that the FX90 is fragile? I mean, I can see MAYBE the footswitch, but it seems like a solid unit to me.

I like my little YJM DOD preamp booster thingy. There's nothing wrong with a bit of solid state growl in my tone, in fact its essential for rhythm parts.

I like DODs. Good and cheap are both good for me lol.
