Hi, I've just discovered this board. I find it very interesting. I bought a jaguar a couple of years ago. It is the first and only guitar I've ever had. Actually, I asked my brother in law to get me a decent guitar, I did not really care about the model since I did not know a lot about guitars back then. He got me this Fender Jaguar. (this one is not mine but it looks exactly the same.

The thing is, it has no serial number. But it really looks genuine when I compare all it's components with any Jaguar I see on the internet. I brought it to a guitar shop and they told me it was a real one. I will never, ever try to sell it. But I was just curious. Is there a way for me to see if it is a real genuine Jaguar ? Again, I don't know a lot about guitars so I'm sorry if some of you find this post lame or something.

If it's a re-issue, which I presume it is, the serial number would be on the neck, near the neck heel. If it's been scratched off you'd be able to see damaged paint where it was. Although the guitar may have been refinished and hte serial number's been painted over. If it's a vintage jaguar the serial number would be on the neckplate, if yours doesn't have one the neckplate might be a replacement.

Hmm... interesting hybrid if it is authentic. Looks like Chrome'd plates.

i dont even see a hole for the string tree.maybe the necks been sanded along with the serial#.

maybe it's a replacement neck or a parts jag. if the headstock was sanded down there would still be a hole there; unless it was sanded down until you could hear china on the other side i don't see how that'd make it disappear.

hehe!yeah,i meant the serial# being sanded not the hole.its gotta be a replacement neck unless the holes been filled with putty and we just cant see it.the photo is a bit grainy.

There is absolutely no trace of a hole there. So I guess it's a replacement neck. oh well... I paid 300$ for it and I like the way it sounds... Thanks for your replies.

So... that means if I think a jaguar looks better with sunburst colors, it would not be a crime to take it to a shop and ask for a paint job, right ? 😀

I dont think its a vintage body, but I say leave it the way it is. It looks beautiful as it is, and who knows, you might be disappointed with sunburst, especially if the woodgrain on your guitar is boring. But as red, it looks bloody shmick!

the trem is american. the neck has a japanese decal on it. so it's likely the neck is japanese. the pickguard fits wierd on the body. it could be a japanese neck and body that has had american parts put on it. the pickups have large screw heads, like an american one. take the bridge cover off, and take a photo of the saddles and assey, and i could tell you if it was japanese or not.

the neckplate has gone on pretty badly. either that, or alot of wood has been sanded off round the edge

It may be an original body, but that's not the original colour if it is so who cares.

for $300 it's an amazing instrument. I can't help but notice the vertical checking on the body. If it's not the original color, it was refin'd ages ago, then. But, since the neck isn't original, a refin certainly isn't out of the question.

Congrats on the guitar...and if you ever decide to sell, just remember two words:
