It's a mistake on the Fender site. I can't find the page right now but there was an accurate version on a Japanese website.

Anyway, what you will find is that it should say CIJ, Q + 0 + 5 digits = 2002-4 which is what you have.

I'm still unsure about mine. I'm of the opinion its a '96 but if you say there's a mistake on the site... 😕

mine is cij but acording to that site there are no cij's that start with a v.

Yeah, that's the exception to the rule 😉

There is a small overlap during the period of changeover in '97 when they put CIJ on V serials.

The "S" stands for "Seventies" (and later "E" stands for "Eighties") and the second digit denoting the year of the decade (i.e. S7=77, S8=78, and S9=79). All Mustangs made in the '80s wear the the "S9xxxxx" serial number. Fender probabaly made too many stickers in '79 and didn't want to waste it so kept on using them.
