Adjuster part for Jag-Stang

Hi,

I acquired a Jag-Stang last week but it was missing a part referred to as the 'adjuster' on the bridge, which looks like two bolts that keep the bridge in place, without the adjuster the bridge is completely loose from the guitar.

Can anybody recommend a place where I would be able to get hold of this part?

Apologies if my guitar terminology isn't up to much! 😡

Ahh you are missing the bridge posts. Thats odd that you are missing them, I dont know where you can buy just post but you are better off buying a new bridge.

Just look at any online parts retailer and look for a "Mustang" bridge.

Are you missing the screws to adjust the height of the bridge?

Without the strings on to keep it in place, the bridge is meant to be loose from the body, you don't screw it in.

i'm not entirely sure what part you're talking about exactly. do you mean the trem tailpiece, or the bridge assey height screws?

Yeh, as you can see in the pic 'iCEByTes' posted it's those two posts under the bridge.

So would the best course of action be to just purchase a new Mustang bridge?

if you're talking about the bridge bushings, i don't think you can get the japanese ones on their own without buying the bridge with them.

if you're saying someone has snapped the posts off the bridge, then yes, you will need a completely new bridge

I'll try get some pictures of the bridge for Wednesday so you can get a clearer idea of the problem.

when you are looking at where the bridge goes, do you see metal or wood?

if metal, then you just need the complete bridge.

if wood, then you need the bushings. Either way, you'll need to order a new bridge. Oh, and remember the Jag-stang bridge is the Mustang bridge.

So really I'm looking to get a new Jag-Stang/Mustang bridge which would include those two posts? Can anybody suggest a decent retailer of these, preferably UK based but anywhere else is fine, or prehaps somebody on the board has the part spare themselves and would be prepared to sell?

BTW, Augustus_McCrae, I can see metal where the bridge goes, see the second image.

By the looks you are missing nothing except the guitar strings.

I just reread your first post, you are saying you were missing something that keeps the bridge from falling out of the body. Well the bridge on jag-stangs are FLOATING ie they are held down purely by the downforce from the strings.

By "adjuster", I think you also mean an allen key so you can adjust the heigh of a bridge. Just buy a set of imperial and metric allen keys and you'll be fine.

I think he means he's missing the adjustment screws in the bridge posts. Either that, or they're screwed all the way in...

Can you see through the posts on the actual bridge? If so, you need the adjustment screws, if not, you need the proper allen wrench to set the height on your bridge.

i think mumblyjoe's hit the nail on the head. you've only had a strat-ish type guitar before (or a guitar with a combined tailpiece and bridge or an acoustic), and aren't used to the bridge being able to come off the body when there's no strings on it. it's supposed to be like that. like mumbly said, the downforce of the strings is what keeps the bridge on, and those holes are for allen keys to adjust the height. without strings, the bridge SHOULD be loose from the guitar. tune-o-matics also come off their posts with no strings on.

it DOES however, look like you are missing only one of the screws that the allen key would adjust...(the one on the left in picture 1) in which case you'd need a new bridge. but before you buy it, look inside the corresponding bridge bushing... it happens 😆

i don't even think he's missing that assey hieght screw. nothing wrong with it. tape the posts if you want

I have to say I'm with Paul on this one.......

Either the screw is not there, or it might be backed down in it's hole. I'd get a hex wrench to check it out with, if there's something in the hole on that side of the bridge, then it's the screw, if not, you might need to get one, though I have no clue where to get a separate action adjustment screw for a Jag-Stang bridge separate from a whole new bridge assembly, but then you might get lucky.

Thanks for everybodies help!

It turns out that the guy in the guitar shop I took the Jag-Stang to mistook the height adjustment screws for being 'rivets' as he had not seen adjustment screws in that style, so I explained to him and the guitar is now set up and sounding great. Although the screw on the left had gone all the way in so it did give the impression of being missing in the pictures.
