Getting a new Jaguar - Options

Hi everyone, I am going to get me a Jaguar!

Currently I have the following three options:

1. A 2nd hand, though not much used, made in Japan in 1993-1994. 600euros

2. A new from Thomann.de, made in Mexico. 810euros

3. A new custom made from warmoth, ? euros.

The thing is that with the custom made (option 3) I can get the color I like. I don't really like the 1 and 2 colors (sunburst). Plus I may get a mustang bridge straight away, with no need to mod anything. An other drawback of 1. is that the guitar has single coil pups, while I should be able to get splitable humbuckers with the other two options. (how do they compare to the single coils anyway?)

Any advice will be greatly appreciated. Thanks!

If you think singlecoils are a drawback, you shouldn't really be getting a Jaguar in my opinion.

I'm certainly not viewing them as a drawback, I just see the splittable pickups giving more options. Can the splited humbucker compare to the "true" single coil? If not, I'll get the single coils. 😀

I tried a MIJ Jaguar and the pickups sounded very thin imo.

I didn't get a bluesy enough tone out of it. For Surf they are great ofcourse...... (twangy sound)

If i ever get a Jaguar, it would have humbuckers with split-coil for tone variations. 😉

Fair enough, it was just the way you'd worded it in your first post.

Well, if you want a lot of different tonal options, the Classic Player from Mexico may well be the way to go. Regarding the finish, they do make that model in white as well as sunburst, so it's not as if you don't have options there.

I would only get the MIJ if you're prepared to make a lot of mods to it.

i would get a MIM Cp one if i were you. I have the MIM jazzy and the fact it has a tunomatic bridge etc. means its actually good from the box >.< the jag/jazzy stock bridges infuriate me, and i've never even owned one!
