Yeah, I think the first production year for these had to have been late 1984/early 1985, many people think they are older, but 1985 seems more right as the later ones came out in 1987, I remember seeing the DG-10 in the Sears catalog during that era.
This one is the first one made, some differences between it and my DG-10 that's 3000 miles away at the moment...
- The DG-10 has Chorus and Reverb effects built in, and a "solo" button that makes it a single note at a type synth
- The DG-10 has it's tuning knob on the panel on the bottom and useable with fingers, the DG-1 has it in a recessed hole in back and requires a screwdriver.
- The DG-20 has MIDI, drum pads, and some other features I have yet to hear about.
- This has some different sounds from the DG-10, the chorus sound is really nice, sounds like a cross between something The Call would use or a shoegaze band (with chorus and a lot of reverb)
I've been told, and it does indeed sound like a lot of old Casiotone keyboard sounds, but through some good effects they can be pepped up incredibly. This thing is a bit quieter through my V-amp than my DG-10 was. The Internal Drum Machine is pretty cheesy sounding, but the sounds themselves are not so bad for the retro-80's type synth sounds I like to use.
I did do a little setup to it, I tension all the strings to the same tension because it throws me off less, and seems to help with getting a more accurate grab on the note. Eventually I hope to get my DG-10 here, and get a DG-20 so I can have all 3 and make a cool page for them.
