There isnt a huge difference in sound between the two, all that varies is the build quality. Both are still very good, but the originals are handcrafted, use poplar/alder for wood and have nitro finishes.
Best to say to get a reissue, cheaper and will do the trick. If it is too thin sounding, just replace the pickups with some hot wound strat ones or stacked humbuckers.
