Jaguar or Jagmaster?

I'm trying to decide on wether to get a Fender Jaguar or a cheaper Squire Jagmaster.And What's the difference between them?

A HUGE DIFFERENCE!!

First of all, they are two COMPLETLY different models, only similarity is the body shape

The Jagmaster:

- Comes in either 25.5" (out of production) or 24" scale lengths

- Features "Duncan Designed" humbuckers

- Vintage style Stratocaster tremolo

- Squier tuners

- 1 tone, 1 volume and 1 pickup selector

- Only currently available in 3TS or Black, though older models can be found in Daphne Blue, Red and white

- Priced around $300US new

The Jaguar:

- 24" scale

- Three different types: Vintage, American Vintage Series, made/Crafted In Japan. All three are similar, only slight differences in crafting quality.

- 2 Jaguar single coil pickups

- Fender Dynamic Vibrato

- Pre 1965 models and reissues have Kluson style tuners, Post 65 and reissues have f Tuners

- 1966 necks have binding, 1967 necks have blocks and binding, some feature maple necks (rare)

- 2 circuits: lead and rhythm. 2 tone and 2 volume, thin switch and other stuff

- Available in plenty of colors.

- Prices; Vintage: $1500US+ in good condition, AV: $1000US new, MIJ/CIJ: $600US new (prices arent 100% accurate)

various alternative rock guitarists repopularized jaguars and jazzmasters, but those guitars don't sound particularly RAWK to those who've only had experience with your basic strat/tele/lp/sg fare. the jagmaster was created to give the same look of a jag/jazzie while retaining things that a lot of rock and rollers are more comfortable with, like a strat bridge, humbuckers, and basic control set-up.

most agree that the inception of the jagmaster is a direct result of kurt cobain having a jaguar with 2 humbuckers installed in it, and a solid ham-fist-applicable bridge installed. jazzmasters were meant for jazz, but they were more popular with surf guitarists, so fender re-worked the design to go in that direction more, and that's what the jaguar is.

if you want to rock, go with the jagmaster. i find the jaguar pretty versatile, but if you're not branching out in a million musical directions then the jagmaster will save you a lot of money.

If you get a jagmaster, try and get your hands on a Vista series. They come with Kluson style tuners, *i think* different pickups (but still good) and a lot more colors.

If your looking for an alternative rock guitar at a nice price i'll second the VISTA SERIES Jagmaster as well, very good quality, atomic humbuckers, stable machine heads, comfortable to play and looks good. I had one and in all honesty the only thing that arguably needed upgrading was the pups, they can get microphonic at high volumes.

But if you want more sonic diversity and are looking to cover different styles the Jag is one of the best guitars around imo, but bear in mind if you want to 'rock out' on the Jag you'll either need to 'wax pot' the pups or upgrade the bridge pup at least.

I'd browse ebay (vista jagmasters pop up regularly although i cant see any on ebay at the moment) and compare prices between vista jagmasters and jap jaguars, in some cases there is'nt a lot of money separating them.

Thats a Chineese made. If you want a Jagmaster i would hold out and get the Vista Series. Only place you can get them is on either e-bay or if your lucky in a pawn shop. I had a Vista JM. but i sold it on ebay and made a huge profit. Now i wish i would have kept it. 😠

i say get the best of both worlds, get the hh jaguar, it's a les paul, but with the jaguar circut, and body, itll run ya about 600-700 though.

What about the Jaguar hh Baritone special?cuz it comes im sunburst and I love sunburst

its a baritone, which means its a step below the normal guitar, and its a larger scale. i thought hh jags came in sunburts from japan?

well, if i didnt say it, i ment it import from japan. sometimes they pop up on ebay.ther're alright guitars, but if colour is a big issue, id go jagmaster, they are cheaper..... but hh jaguars, are nice guitars.

I found a Japanese website that sells them in sunburst I think I might get one of those

they're pretty nice, i think was it handen? who was gonna buy one. anywasy my only beef with them is the non jaguar tremelo, and hunbuckers, but i think that guitar is right up your ally.
