Can you guys tell me about the big muff pi? I've been playing with one each time i go to guitar center and i like it.But can you guys tell me the full gains of owning this pedal?

(btw I'm out of nirvana I now play mudhoney,Babes in toyland,scratch acid,butt-hole surfers,black flag and MDC)

I'm not gonna argue about whether he deserves #### or not, or flame him, but I can see him definitely just heading straight to GC and buying the NYC RI. 😆😆😆

If you're looking to buy an EHX BM currently in production (tbh, I doubt you know about teh b000teeks), get the BMP W/ Tone Wicker.

I agree. If you want one of the current production Muffs, get the Tone Wicker. The USA RI is just really thin and buzzy. It kind of has that high gain Siamese Dream thing, but it's just kind of 2D. Also, a USA style Muff might not be yr kind of style if you want to play Mudhoney-ish stuff; the Russian Muffs are more raw sounding, but they're discontinued. You could try the Bass Muff too, apparently that's quite Russian-y sounding. So yeah, BMPW/TW, or Bass Muff. The current USA is a bit like the Metalzone of Muffs (no offense to anybody who has one).

What muff would be best for muhoney? (I'm bored with Nirvana's sound and I like the dynamics of mudhoneys sound,and I'm wanting to use their sound for song writeing.)

My Russian Reissue is quite Mudhoney-ish, certainly more than the USA Muffs are. If you want Mudhoney's sound, definitely go for either a Russian of any kind (whatever you can find cheapest), or the new Bass Muff (which you should definitely try). The USA is quite "polished" sounding, like SP or some L7 songs, whereas the Russian is more Mudhoney/Sonic Youth sounding.

I want to try a russian but they're no longer with us so yeah....

I want to try the bass muff to but i can't find a store with bass pedals.(the guitar center in nashville has a very small pedal selection)

Well, seeing as Josh said the USA ones wouldn't be as good, and there are only USA or Russian ones to choose from, which one d'you think would be better with your incredible deductive reasoning?

Don't pay something crazy because it's discontinued. They are not rare. #### millions of them were made... They don't even sound special. Just a slightly darker sounding muff, still lacking mids, just without the fizzy gain of the NYC.

Most muffs (apart from the Op Amp muffs) sound crap unless the sustain knob is near maxed. The Ibanez OD-850 was Ibanez' take on the big muff. They're very hard to find, but SUF will clone you one if you ask. They sound great with the sustain rolled back and do a good overdrive as well as fuzzy distortion, and they aren't horribly thin and sharp like the NYC Muffs.

bee-tee-dubs, this thread has me GASing bad for a SUF GRM and OD-850 😐

dont pay a lot for a russian muff.... dont be a plonker, but for a general muff your going to find easily.. thats the best one to get IMO

Also, muffs are so easy to make, AND there are so many vintage clones out, there, you may as well get one of those or make one/get a kit.

I saw a vintage muff for $50 on ebay,I might get that one.(I'm not sure how old it is but it's army green and the paint is worn to hell and the knobs look like weird washers or something,so i asume it's pretty vintage.)

That's an old russian, and remember it is an AUCTION so it is going to go for way more than $50
