Fender mute Rocker setup

Does anyone know if i can fit a mute plate on my jazzmaster? it seems that its made only for jaguars....??

my friend smutvendetta (cool name by the way) i think you did not understand my question. I saw them pictures from the link.... and i think you mean the bridge cover. My question was about the mute plate assembly check it out: http://4.bp.blogspot.com/_tGXVU2me5og/S ... /73jag.jpg

that thing fits under the bridge and mutes the strings giving a really cool surf sound.... i think it only fits jaguars not jazzmasters.

Both guitars use exactly the same bridge assembly. The only reason you only see the mute on Jaguars is because they were developed after the Jazzmaster, specifically for the Jaguar due to the guitars intended application (surf). But, as I say, the bridge itself is exactly the same, so there's no reason why you couldn't fit the mute. I'm led to believe the mute requires some minor routing work though... could be wrong.

thank you for your post richie. I know the bridge's the same but i don't know if the width between the bridge and the pickup is. I'll give it a try and hopefully if all goes well i'll post some pics of my guitar's new looks.

Last night i finally managed to install a fender mute on my jazzmaster.

Works fine and the sound it gives to the guitar is really unique.

Just wanted to inform, whoever wants to do it, it's doable and not that dificult to maneuver.

well, i bought it in 1996 (50th anniversary model) for about 600 euros (and i think i paid a lot for a jap jazzy). 60 euros for a custom made inox steel (laser cut) pickguard (back in 2004). It originaly had a red tortoise pickguard. 120 euros for novaks P-180, 20 euros for the mute, 8 euros for the foam (ridiculus i know) and about 20 euros for the buzzstop. All the rest wiring and killswitch intallation were made by me and a friend(big thanks mike) who's really good at tricking electronics. Now i'm thinking of upgrading the tremolo but first i have to change the frets cause i play allmost everyday.

I did not buy a spring or a plunger. At the time i didnt know i needed them...so after some researh I used a spring from a pickup and i made a plunge from a pen.

Ask me if you have any other questions..

tip: Dont go too far with the hole for the plunge .... go slow as you drill and try it with the spring several times.

I didn't know how deep that hole was supposed to be, so I drilled about half a cm deeper and i had to fill that with a piece of wood.
