What's the deal with the new Vox ac30s?

The Chinese ones.

Are they "fixed" from 2004-2005 models or aren't they?

I hear some people saying the recent ones they got this year are fine... whereas last year I heard a whole bunch of horror stories.

So what's the go.

Are they really that ####? Or are they #### compared to early models (which mind you, had speakers worth $700 each... at least)

and everyone's just cynical.

I know sweet #### all about Vox per se but I like the EL-84 sound but don't want to spend out the ass for a local made one.

So yeah. Tell me what's good/bad about the re-issue CC2 Vox AC30s.

i havent heard the new reissues, but i can tell you that the AC30 IS the amp.

i tried one last year and couldn't see what all the fuss is about, not a terribly complicated amp either. if that cabinet, grillcloth and red control panel are worth hundreds of dollars to you, go for it.

I tried one in London and if you want to make that mid-heavy chimey crunchy sound then it's for you. They are f**king loud though, stupidly so.

I agree with Paul that they're totally overpriced for what they are. I'd expect two proper channels for that much. And the tremelo is not amazing - it doesn't go fast enough and to be honest, doesn't sound much better than my Tunamelt. A Twin tremelo sounds a whole heap better but I hate those stupidly loud overpriced buggers.

Yeah... I've heard heaps of original Vox's as a friend of mine own one and I'm really fond of the sound.

My main concern was the build quality more so than the features/sound.

The price I've been given is almost half on the RRP... so the price isn't too bad considering it's about a month old.

I bought one earlier this year. If you like the AC30 sound it's the best one yet. It nails the classic sound and has all manner of modern extras too, the most important to me being the master volume.

I've had no problems with it at all and the build quality is fine.

No there's been no problems at all with it, but I've only had it about 3 months. It doesn't have the harmonic problem that some of the earlier ones had so I'm hoping all the teething problems are fixed as Vox claim.

I start gigging with it at the end of July so hopefully it won't die on me, I'll take along a spare just in case.
