Yes the copicat is a tape delay, therefore it uses tape...
and yes, I agree. Tape is too fiddily, requires too much looking after and I don't want to bother with cleaning tape heads and stuff. And old tape starts to sound overly gritty and if I wanted that I'd have got a DMB Lunar Echo >_<
Moog makes a delay unit. The expression control features are great, and they're obviously built brilliantly and look great, but they don't sound thaaat great imo, or anywhere near great enough to warrant that kind of price.
The best tape emulating delay is the Skreddy Echo imo, which is $325 and a 6 month waiting list. Definitely worth it though.
The delays I'm really gasing right now are:
DRASP/Technophobia modded DL-4 (industrial strength switches like wot Moog and Lovepedal have, and the double preset mod).
Ibanez/Maxon AD-202
