yeah, something weird is up with my LP; it was destined to fall into my hands maybe. i love the '59 LP re-issues but they're so expensive, so when i decided i wanted a les paul i had my mind set on a standard in some kind of burst with the 50's neck profile option, so it'd seem 59ish....
so i walk into GC, where i don't normally shop, and see a les paul with the 50's neck profile, a burst that struck me as somewhat authentic-looking and Tom Murphy aged hardware. as if that wasn't enough, they had mistakenly priced it at $1900 (the regular standards were $2100-$2300)
i went through thinking this was a custom shop class 5 or '59 re-issue or something crazy... it has a serial number consistent with regular les paul standards but with a 1 in front of it, which usually means custom shop. so my best guess to date is that its a les paul standard which, for some reason, was sent through the custom shop for it's finish and to have it's hardware aged. it's definately not a '59 repro or anything fancier than standard LP spec, just the finish, hardware and serial number are odd.
one more thing about the gibson tom murphy aged hardware... as your hands/pick keep rubbing against it or hitting it, the "aged" patina wears off and they start looking new... 😆
