Cheap Mustang-style guitar?

My friend is in love with stangs... But never has cash, What's a cheaper alternatieve to a mustang? Any good clones?

IMO mustangs are cheap enough already, especially 2nd hand ones! People just need to get the "I want it and I want it now" concept out of their heads and save for the real deal, the rewards for this are endless and no guitar can be like the real deal, both physically and psychologically!

I plan on getting an AVRI jazzmaster, but its gonna take me about 6 months to save for, I'm fine with that!

I have to agree, I've been through so many cheap guitars before shelling out for some GOOD ones. it will save a lot of time and effort and money in the long run.

I would just go for a mustang... just save a bit... alternatively a duo-sonic is kinda mustang like...

A real Mustang is always better, i brought mine (secondhand) for about 350,- if i'm correct. (euro's) You just have to look/search good. + A knockoff Stang is even harder to find.

Remember Fender put these kind of guitars as ''Student'' guitars on the market. No way i'm paying 700 to 800,- for a new one. 😆 Don't get me wrong they are great guitars, but they are just not worth $700/800,-

As has already been suggested, I would say a Duo-Sonic is the best alternative, either one of the current Squier ones, or even a mid-90's MIM. MIM Duo's can be found fairly regularly on ebay, and the price for them rarely creeps above USD$200.

You might be able to pick up a late 1970s Musicmaster for the price of a RI Mustang. In my experience its a way better guitar despite the lack of tremolo and switching options. I had one and fitted a bridge pup, it played effortlessly.... miss that guitar.
