ive used neither, but i can tell you a little about tube and optical compressors. the difference is in how the signal is read. an optical compressor, as you might expect, converts the electronic input to light before processing it in the usual way. a tube compressor works in a similar way to a tube amp in terms of processing, but i dont really know the finer details or anything
they're both analogue in circuitry, but the optical compressor will be a little more transparent (in general) than the tube. ive used optical compressors before and really like the sound, but im not sure if that was just the units ive used rather than the technique (several joe meek models including the the classic SC2.2 and a tfpro one which is similar)
if you want control id go for opto, if you just want a fuller sound, id go tube, but its certainly an area to be wary of the "tube = better" assumption
