Mad-Mike Towards tailpiece, I hardly have to set it anyway since I rarely change string type/gauge, and I find the 24" scale guitars a little more stable woodwise (less string stress).
Purplehaze19x Scews face tailpiece, I use guage 10 strings, and never have set intonation on any of my Mustangs or my Jagstang and the intonation is near perfect.
Gavin It doesn't matter. I did have htem facing the neck because in my opinion it made setting the intonation a little easier, but it's not like it was impossible the other way, just a little awkward.
