Which single coil pickups get you the closest to corgan's sound? I've heard it's hot gold lace sensors

Depends what album sound you want, for a while now he's been using Dimarzios. For Siamese Dream though you want Lace Sensors: red in the bridge, silver in the middle and blue in the neck. BUT, to get his sound exactly you also need to put that through a version 5 Big Muff, into a cranked Marshall stack, with all the correct settings...

then mix it the right way. with the same mics in the same size room of the same material. Make sure you use the same pics too.

Richie's right about the pickups. But you don't need loads of overdubs to get that sound... I've got the SD demos (called Quiet and Other Songs, it's probably on torrent somewhere), and the whole thing is just the band playing live in the studio with no overdubs, and the Muff sound and the clean sounds are the same as on the album pretty much, just with much rougher production (obviously), and the Muffs sound a bit brighter.

I wouldn't...... I sound much better without layering..... maybe that's just me though.....

Anywho, I can see calling Corgan overrated, cuz he kinda is, but I dun think he by any means sux.

Definitely over rated. But everything that's ever been high on the charts on the radio is over rated. And in this day and age, he does suck. I hold no hopes for what Smashing Pumpkins now is, and or future projects involving Mr. Corgan.

I don't think its fair to say that everything that has ever been on the charts sucks. Because older music that all of us may like was once popular. It just isn't popular now. Saying that only unsigned and bands people have never heard of are betterz and soo k00lz doesn't make anyone think you have a better/more individual music taste.
