It's fine for me, I've already got a keeley modded rat. Guess it kind of sucks for people who haven't purchased one yet, they better.

there,s always e-bay i guess.ive wanted one for a while but ive always heard the 80,s rats are superior sounding.anyone ever a/b the two?dont the old ones have a better chip?

I have one. Yea the other, widely used rat, sounds a little smoother. More distortion, than fuzz. Think weezer. The Vintage rat I've had now for some time is a great vintage fuzz sound, but not a versitle as the other. Thats not sayin much too.

I still like it. no other pedal sounds like it, I use it next to the russian green muff. They were $90 new. I got it for $65 new. But I hear the tone pot giving out. so I dunno, the other rats better and its a buisness move if anything the VR didnt sell as well.

there's never going to be a shortage of Vintage Rats, they just made way too many for that. ebay will be flooded with them, and many people make copies, schematics for the simple circuit can be found online, etc...

i reccomend the deucetone, it has TWO vintage rats in it! each one is switchable between Vintage, Turbo and Dirty (channel A) or Clean (ch. 😎 too.

you can even plug into just one of them for some reason. anyways i have one and i think it's great, the end.

any fan of older blur material needs one of these. it's quite easy to obtain the sound of what was evidently graham coxon using his two rats at once, and his overdrive sound is abound here as well.

also, using the clean rat with the tone boosted up in conjunction with a dirty rat with the tone turned down is an extremely high-gain yet clarity-up-the-bum sound that's totally bad-ass and completely crazy.

the original rat (which looks like the rat 2 with a slightly different logo)has the lm308 chip which is suppose to give the rat its great sound.i have never played one of the originals nor the reissues but i want one.

Yeah the original/old Rats aren't sloped and have "ProCo RAT" on the face rather than just "RAT".

I'm guessing the Vintage RAT is a reissue of the first RAT? Although I've never seen a pic of an old old bigbox RAT.

It means nothing to me, i've owned several vintage Rat pedals and each time i got one i thought "maybe i was wrong last time...this pedal supposed to be legendary" but to be honest they just disapoint me everytime.

Each to their own though.

i would like to try one out but none of the shops around here carry any type of rat pedal.i,ll definately try before i buy though.i,ve been dissapointed before with legendary type pedals.any comments on the turbo rat?

I used to have a Turbo RAT but was using humbuckers and solidstate amps at the time, neither of which seem to suit the RAT very well so can't really compare it to the RAT2 too well. The RAT2 with a very quick and easy mod sounds goddamn amazing with my guitars and amp though, best sound I've had out of a pedal, easily.

I find the RATs work best with singlecoils (less output to cut down on that spongy compression RATs are known for) running into a sliiiiiiightly crunchy tube amp.

And yeah, they're not everybodys cup of tea, the amp and guitar you're using make such a difference.
