Original Duo-Sonic contoured?

Anyone know, was the original Duo-Sonic body a slab or contoured on the back?

And was the waist offset by maybe just one degree?

I think they were just slab bodies. The reissue certainly is just a slab body, so I presume the originals were too.

And, no, I don't think they were offset at all 😀

I know broncos are not contoured, so i don't think the rest of the student guitars from that era would be.

Reason I ask...my 2009 Classic Vibe Duo-Sonic has a nice chest contour at the back and I believe the waist is nearly symmetrical but offset about 1 degree. Or is it just my imagination?

I vaguely remember hearing about changes to the Duo-Sonic, but am by no means certain.

As for an offset, I'm convinced that strats are slightly offset as well. Not by much, but I think it's there.

Thanks, Robb. regarding "slab", maybe my understanding of a "slab body" is wrong. The 1965 Mustang is a flat piece of wood, that is, it's the same thickness all around the perimeter of the body. Then in '69 you get the contoured body, it's thinner at the upper rear edge, which I thought means it's no longer a "slab body".

Anyone know for sure what the correct definition of "slab" is?

Sorry, I know this is quite an old topic, but I feel I should post this for completion 😀

When I said reissue before I was referring to the 90s Fender reissue, not the Squier Classic Vibe ones. And a slab body is exactly what you described the '65 Mustang as, i.e. the same thickness all over the body. I think the original Duo-Sonics were just a slab body.

Hope that's cleared things up 😀

Well the topic has been clearified, but I thought I might share this with you, but while watching an old surf movie with my dad the other day I saw a guy playing a Duo-Sonic when they had just been released. Very cool to see such a nice guitar in use and to hear the quality of it from all those years ago.
