Special Edition Jag HH Mod?

Hey guys, I got myself a Special Edition HH Jag a little while back, tempted by its chrome and paint. I really do love everything about this guitar except one thing. I thought I wouldn't miss the tremolo but the more and more I play it I find I do indeed miss having it.

So here is my question, as returning it for a Jag with a regular tremolo tail piece is not possible, do you think it would be possible to buy a regular jag tremolo tail, and mount it on myself, and what would be some of the problems I would have to watch out for while doing so.

I have only ever made minor modifications before, and I'm not sure that the way this guitar is stock set, that it would be possible.

You could always get a Vibramate and a Bigsby if you want the tremolo, 'cause that would require no routing whatsoever. But to put the proper Jag trem on would be a fool's errand.

I have one of these on lay a way, and am curious about the same thing....what would this cost to have a pro install for you I wonder?

Rather a lot. They'd have to route a hole about 5cm by 5cm, 3cm deep, fill the holes for the stopbar, and then drill for the proper Jag bridge thimbles. Then source the new parts. And obviously align it all and make sure it's working. And then do a full setup on the guitar.

Seriously not worth considering at all. Like I say, if you want a trem on one of these guitars, get one of these:

A fraction of the effort, none of the routing work, probably about a third of the overall cost, pretty much the same end result.

Yea, I called around about it and it would just end up costing way too much. I've never used a bigsby before and from what i've seen they look pretty stiff. I liked the fluid jag tremolo. i.e. for tremolo strumming and such.

I wouldn't mind having a bigsby on my jag if it was done right and by a professional....

well like Richie said, I've looked over it and getting the Bigsby b5 and using the vibramate to mount it seems very straight-forward and easy. no holes to drill in the body, just using the existing holes from the tailpiece.

I'm thinking about it, maybe see if I can get a hold of somebody with one to see how the action on it is and how it feels first.

Otherwise I think you will be very happy with this jag, it is truly a lovely and affordable guitar.

It plays GREAT too!

A jag with a bigsby would look so sexy. Great idea Richie, excellent choice. if you upgraded the pickups with tv jones you'd have one of the best sounding and most versatile guitars out there.
