I just got a Warmouth "Mustang" bridge for my Jag.
These bridges were made to rock back and forth in their sockets, and roll with the strings when the vibrato is used, making it act more smoothly, and in tune. I`ve always set my intonation with the bridge rocked all the way back, as far as I could manually pull it with the strings on. It seems to me that this gives the bridge a relatively precise, objective, fixed point from which to be in tune that can always be found without any trial and error. The bridge can still rock as much as it needs to from this position, and if it ever manages to creep forware during heavy playing with the whammy bar, you can always pull it right back into place. I keep the bridge from rattling against the back of the sockets by using a couple winds of tape (masking, electrical, whatever) at the point of contact. I also apply some white glue to the height adjustment screws at the bottom of the bridge assembly to dampen any rattle that they might produce, and a small amount of the same glue underneath each bridge saddle, to hold them still, also. The glue doesn`t stick so hard that it can`t be "broken" if re- adustment is necessary, and it dries clear, so it doesn`t show.
