I can't remember EXACTLY where I read it, but I think Ernie Bailey said it was a Bridge Texas Special pickup.. would make sense considering WHO Fender was making the guitar for and that (even though Texas Specials are HOT pickups) Fender had to make something that would work with the type of Rock Kurt played...
So while I can't say for 100% certain it was a bridge version, I THINK it was b/c of that article I read yrs ago and that even though the Texas Special pickup is SUPER HOT, the goal was to keep the pickups from DRAMATICALLY changing volume when switching them and the Bridge version would do a MUCH better job for that than a Neck or Middle position pickup...
