whats a decent lightweight guitar?

Uhm, last winter I got into a car accident and messed up my left shoulder pretty bad the hospital screwed up the xrays told me there was nothing wrong and I found out months later that it was actually broken and fractured in 3 places. Because of this my shoulder healed wrong and sticks out more. It causes a lot of pain for me when Im at band practice and playing my Jaguar(which is pretty heavy in my opinion). So i was wondering whats a decent lightweight guitar?

I really want a univox hi flier phase 2 I know their pretty light. Maybe telecasters?

Also I was wondering if there are any guitar straps that are more comfortable for your shoulder, padded maybe? I dont want to stop playing my jag live, its my first and favorite guitar...I already had to sell my moserite copy because it was extremely heavy and killed my shoulder. So yeah.

You should get a Danelectro. Those are light as hell, sound great, and are in the same realm of guitar sound that you seem to prefer. I am crazy about mine.

On a separate note, is their no way to rebreak your fractures and set them so they heal properly? Sorry to hear about you misfortune, man.

The danelectro's actually are pretty nice I know Frank Discussion from the feederz uses one. Sounds pretty cool clean.

Its a mess actually. I worked as a laboror lifting 50lbs all day then I got in that accident the doctor took an x ray of my arm instead of my shoulder told me to take motrin and go back to work the next day. So I had to work months like that and no one believed me like, it took me forever to even dress myself. The pain never stopped and I was sick of it went to a different doctor who didnt believe me then I showed her how my bone stuck out really far and it obviously didnt look right she took an xray and found out it was broken and fractured in 3 places. She sent me to a specialist and he just told me to take physical therapy and itll never be completely right again..I dont see why they just cant break it and set it back into place. Like its so painful Im about ready to try and teach myself to play lefty. Thanks for your advice!

Id think about building another jag, maybe from warmoth but make the body out of a lighter wood.

I really love my Ibanez ORM1 it's light as hell (and screams) they are also cheap but you will need to change the pups.

Thinline Telecaster:

Any hollow, semi-hollow guitar will be lighter.

Anything made from basswood or poplar will generally be lighter.

Smaller bodies will be lighter, mustang or jag-stang is smaller than a jazz/jag.

However weight may wary rather drasticaly from body to body made of the same wood species.

Use wide straps, they distribute load better and the same guitar feels easier on your body. I use strap 4.5" wide for my 8 string. That guitar hung on a regular strap seems to just cut into my shoulder like a hot wire into butter just after few minutes of playing 😐 modify or make yourself totaly new strap that just feels the best, it's not that difficult 😀

Maybe get a custom strap made that fits more like suspenders to spread the weight over both shoulders? Might be cheaper than a new guitar.

I saw those already in a guitarplayer ad I dun remember who made them though. If I run across the ad again I'll post a link.

$20 for straps that spread the weight might be worth checking out if you like heavier guitars. I kind of like guitars a little fatter. 😀 Semi-hollow body guitars are cool too, just not my thing. 😀

Hey, I know you said you were looking into purchasing a Univox Hi-Flier Phase 2, which (please feel free to correct me if I'm wrong) had two P90's?

Well, there are two companies I know of that make reproductions of the Hi-Fliers from that phase (They have P90's, not Humbuckers).

Here is a link to the companies and the models:

Aria DM-380 - Under $200 on eBay

Eastwood Hi-Flyer - $399

I like the bridge and tailpiece on the latter, but it's a bit more expensive. Also, if you wanted 'buckers instead

of the P90's, DiMarzio makes great P90 soapbar replacements, including the Super Distortion for a P90 slot 😁

Aria makes great guitars from what I heard. Also, at the price, my ideas would be all over the place.

I would sticker it up, new pups, and make it YOURS. Whereas if you had a real Univox, nowadays it seems

they're more of a collector piece and most people wouldn't dare make it theirs.

I was trying to see how hard it would be to replace mini humbuckers with single coils and had no luck. I think humbuckers wouldn't be hard. Just would need to make the route bigger and adjust the pickguard. Not sure how the sizing of them compare.

If I ended up buying the Aria someday (it is gorgeous, I may give up a paycheck for it one week 😁), I would put

this in the bridge:

DiMarzio P90-sized Super Distortion humbucker

The Super Distortion has awesome clean sounds (even though the name doesn't really imply it)

I would end up putting this in the neck:

DiMarzio DLX Plus Neck P90-sized humbucker

I think this combo would sound great together and end up ditching the VERY hot P90 single coils and give you a bigger variety of sound out of such a cheap guitar. My luthier changes pickups for $35 dollars each, and usually for me ends up only charging about another 30 for new pots, and a Sprague orange drop capacitor. Basically, you could end up making this $280 dollar guitar sound like a very expensive one.

Is dropping P90's in to a mini humbucker opening hard? Curious because it is hard to find Aria pickguards. I figure I would have to have one custom made if I changed pickups.
