1983-84 Squire Telecaster

Just picked this one up. Seemed like a good price for one of Squires first Teles. It has the SQ serial number so it was the second run of Squire Teles in Japan. (Sort of the first Japan made Teles since the JV Squires were made with American parts.) I can't wait for it to arrive. What do you think? Got it for around $470 plus shipping. (Yeah I know they were cheaper than that new, but they seem to be somewhat rare since SQ Teles were less made than the SQ Strats.)

I had an early 80s Japan Squier Strat and it was a very well built guitar. Those early 80s Squier (by Fender) Japanese guitars are ofter considered better quality than the early 80s American made Fenders.

It came today!! It sounds awesome! I love the bridge pickup. Very nice treble sound. The neck is nice and warm. Only things it looks like I need to fix is some of the screws are stripping so I need to use some wood filler and put them back in. I also need to replace the switch. The hat doesn't stay on. (Unless someone knows a way to get it to stay on other than glue or something.) I might get new knobs and screws, but part of me likes the old weathered look, so I am not sure. Oh I am putting strap locks on. No way I would risk dropping it. The neck is pretty thin but feels good and looks great. I love the ash tray bridge plate.

Trying to decide. Should I keep the weathered knobs on it and old weathered screws around the pickguard or swap them for some new ones?

I am keeping the bridge plate as is. That weathered look is kind of cool. (Of course anything I take out I would keep.)

I know some people will pay extra to have a new guitar weathered to look like this so part of me wants to just leave it alone other than fixing the switch top hat that is lose and filling the control plate screw holes so I can get that locked down better.

Guitar is back from Mike's with it's nut fixed, all tuned and action set up. 😁
