the fender esquier has one pickup wich can be set in 3 tones, i've read that the three positions shut of the volume and tone controls

can anyone tell me exactly what the positions change to the sound and what are the advantages of shutting out the tone and volume controls?

I'd imagen, simple wiring but many different sounds 3 ways selector, 1 = both tone and volume, 2 = no volume potientiometer full sound all ways, 3 = no tone and thats means no capasitor muddy, middy sound. or maybe a different cap all together, and still bypassing the variable potientiometer (your tone knob).

the second position with full volume seems a bit useless to me, is there really an advantage to it?

and the pickup is the same stock pickup as a regular tele i imagine?

The volume position sounds very usefull indeed, roll your volume controll down to half way, and at the flick of a switch you have full volume again! If you're using some form of distortion you can use that to go from low to high gain.
