Bass Speaker size

Now the speaker size for Bass amps...there are basically the 15 inch and 10 inch(multiple)

now what are the sound differences between the two? like are the focus of the 10 inches in the mids? while the 15 is for deep sound? and if you venture out of the specialized zone it sounds crappy...I really have no idea... and are 12 inch speakers decent for the bass?

Friend planning getting a bass amp for giggin and wants one of the Bassman series. any recomendations on them or criticism on the 150 or the 250's?

basically I am in the dark and my friend isn't that much more knowledgable....so any help is appreciated.

10" speakers mean you can here yourself on stage better and are more punchy, cut through the mix better. the lows are pretty damn decent. (i use 10s)

15" speakers usually mean you have to stand far away from the amp to here it properly but they are thunderous and some might say a little muddy compared to 2 x 10"

so it doesn't need to be a 4x10 to work best, or does it not matter much?

I saw a band using a 2x10" and 1x15" together and it sounded awesome. I personally have a 1x15" combo and a 2x15" cab, sound beefy as hell, I like softer Jazzy sounds to I'm not a fan of clunky twangy top end on bass, I usualy have my tone controll rolled down half way.

amen. i need the tone control right down there, and if i'm using a pick i roll it off all the way. i've never been fond of the sound of a bass with the tone control on being played with a pick, it's so abrasive and un-bass, and if you're in a band it's going to sound bad because the guitars are already in there.

Yeah. that does make sense.

I suppose for jazz 10's would be better where as in a full rock band 15's would sound better?...

The bassist in my college band had a FAT as hell Laney half stack with a really deep 4x10 cab. Absolutely no lack of low end on that setup..
