Not sure if I will do the bridge conversion yet. I don't use the tremelo when I play, but I like the classic look of the traditional tail piece. I will have to think on it. I will probably change out the knobs and pickups though. Have to wait and see still.

Thanks! I have been watching ebay the last few weeks and this seemed like a great price. (Especially since I am biased towards the Japanese made Fenders over the Mexican ones.) To see a CIJ one for that in good condition seemed too good to pass up. Doesn't have the traditional tailpiece, but I could add it if I felt like I had to have it. It seems acutally smarter for me to keep it as is since I don't use trem. It is just a look thing. Probably will change the knobs and pickguard at least. I need to try out the pickups to see if they stay or not. If I like them, I will leave them alone. 😀 (Same with pots.)

this tailpiece would be nice if you don't use trem.

I would upgrade the hell out of this baby. These guitars are like canvas and you can do whatever you feel like.

That looks cool! Where do they sell those. Do they require much drilling? I imagine you would need a little bit under where the strings drop under the plate. Also I was thinking, couldn't I get a regular Jaguar tailpiece and remove the spring part on the bottom so it is flat? It wouldn't require drilling and would still look like a normal tailpiece. I haven't seen one in person. Is that an option?

i have no idea where they sell those ... pretty cool tailpiece... they're probably custom made....i believe you would need to do some small routing for the strings's endings to fit... maybe somebody here knows more about it.

and yes i suppose you could do that with the jazzmaster tailpiece, but it would require some routing one way or another ....please man!!! if you decide to this... do it the right way. Give it to a pro luthier. I don't think it would cost that much. Believe me this is a great guitar you bought and she surely worths it.

Hmmm yeah there is more to the bottom than I expected. If I did that much routing I would probably have someone do it for me. I don't mind doing pickup routing because it isn't too hard, but this would probably be a bit more challenging if I decided to use it. Since it is entirely for cosmetic reasons, I probably won't mess with it. It could be one of the few and proud guitars I leave stock. I still need to listen to it's pickups. I did the youtube thing and they sound pretty cool to me. The tone switch and rhythm lead switch makes some interesting sounds.

Bigsby is a good option. It looks pretty cool on a Jaguar.

yes they make humbuckersize...

expensive yes....but they are very high quality pups....

i have a magnatron(bridge) and a supertron(neck)....on a cheap rockingham ....worth every cent.

Hmmm I didn't see the humbucker size option. Might do it, but would have to be later. I think I picked up five guitars since Christmas so I need to recoup spending a bit before going crazy again. 😀 Definately a possibility though. The bigsby is almost guarenteed though. 😀 I think they look hardcore on a Jaguar.

I know Gavin Rossdale used a jazzy with a bigsby in his earlier stuff.

IMO this is the best mod for your new babe.

Would have to get a new pickguard made to match those pickups and possibly fill in the humbucker cavity to ensure the pickups are the correct height? I am sure it is dooable, but not sure if I want those enough to do that. Work and cost vs sound and such. Never know though. I DO want the bigsby for sure. I like that I can add it with no drilling at all.

By the way, does the bridge of a Mustang fit a Jaguar? It it set for rolling already and I might just trade them since I locked down my Mustang trem. Just don't know if they are the same size basically. I would assume so since they are both MIJ Fenders. I guess I will know more for sure when it arrives since I am routing my Mustang this week.

oh H. sorry about that but you didn't hit the "Humbucker Mount" button... i meant to show you that no routing is required.

Yes the bridge fits .... but some drilling has to be done in order to fit the thimbles for it.

Also you have to consider the fretborad radius for that.

Bigsby can work perfectly with a TOM bridge though....

LOL I missed that, but the humber mount ones don't have the same cool look. 😉 You say they are worth the $140 each cost? I will have to listen to the sound bytes to hear them in action.

The Mustang and Jag-Stang bridge just lifts out and I can swap them because they are the same. Does the Jaguar not use thimbles too? I was thinking I just lift both out of the thimbles and switch them. The Mustang has the rounded parts to allow for the bigsby to slide. I haven't had a close up look at the Jag's but I am guessing it isn't rounded since it was made to go with a stop tail. Maybe I will hunt around to get a better look at the normal one. I think the radius for the HH jag is 9,5" as for mustang is 7,25" same as JM?

Warmoth makes a modified Mustang bridge, where the saddles are adjustable L I N K but the price....damn.

The TOM would be fine IMHO. I wouldn't change that as the jm-jag-mustang bridge is a pain in the a$$ to setup right... not to mention string buzz.

Since the Special HH Jaguar has a "adjust-o-matic" (LOL) bridge, shouldn't it work fine with a Bigsby 5 tailpiece as is? It seems like people who installed it says it on their guirar says it works fine with TOM style bridges. (How they do makes no sense to me since those bridges are hard edged vs the rounded ones Mustangs have.) I wouldn't put a TOM on a normal Fender because of the neck radius not matching the bridge.

According to Fender (and this might be different for the CIJ ones) it has a 7.25 radius.

Something that is bugging me in my head lately is WHY THE F#&@ doesn't a company produce Tune-O-Matic Bridges in the different FENDER curves? I can't imagine it NOT making money since so many people try so hard to get them to work. Why hasn't this already happened yet??? LOL

After some reading, it sounds like my guitar already has a TOM basically. People with the Special HH say that the "Adjust-O-Matic" is basically the same as a "Tune-O-Matic."

I posted this on the TOM thread, but it's relevant here, too:

The Fender "Adjust-o-matic" bridge on my CIJ Jag Special is stamped "GOTOH" on the underside. Tailpiece, same.

Which would seem to indicate that finding a "correct" replacement wouldn't be too difficult.

Since they didn't even bother rebranding them, I think it's highly likely that "Fender Adjust-o-matic" is just a synonym for "Gotoh TOM.""
