I think I heard US > all when it comes to paint quality and finish, but I don't own any. Most of mine are Made in Japan and I think they look great. I don't see the difference in nitro vs poly coat and all that. I think with MIM and MIJ sometimes you get a good deal on the finish but quality control is less so sometimes you get lemons too. I haven't ever had a MIJ guitar that let me down yet.
