Jaguar special HH - serial number

Hi,

i just picked up my new jaguar special hh, black one, japanese made. i'm amazed with guitar but noticed one weird thing. when i checked serial number on the internet, it says it's japanese made but also that it is crafted between 1995-1996. how is this possible? my guitar is brand new and as far as i know this particular piece is quite new product.

Japanese serial numbers are often just random. The main way to know the year is Crafted in Japan vs Made in Japan and the letter in the serial number. Sadly they recently switched back to using Made in Japan and restart letters too making it even harder to date the guitars. I think (and I could be wrong) that they do the date on the neck in the pocket area but I have never taken a neck off any of mine to confirm this.

really confusing. i feel pretty frustrated...

No problem. This chart covers up to 2005, but they started using Made in Japan again and are reusing letters I believe as well.
