Hanging a Guitar vs Floor Stand

I am looking for a way to get my guitars out in the open. I know they are safest in their case, but I tend to not play them all if they aren't out in the open. There are floor stands but they take up a lot of space and are kind of expensive. There are the wall hangers, but some people say it can hurt the guitars neck and put stress on it. Those are a bit cheaper and gets them off the floor. There are also the angled guitar hangers that support the body. What are your thoughts on it?

I prefer multiple guitar rack.

With your collection you'll need at least 2 of them rack for 5 guitars. That's one long line of guitars. 😆

What worried me about the rack is them bumping into each other. It seems like they keep the bodies really close together. It would be fun to see a domino row of my guitars.

i have a stupid amount of guitars at all times, i may only own a couple, but with repairs and other people in the band i use wall hangers made out of scrap wood and broken drum sticks.

i believe that it helps keep the guitar in a "natural" state, much like being on a stand or in a case. but i also chose drum sticks becuz alot of the stuff i have and that comes in is finished in lacquer and since rubber on stands is caustic to nitro lacquer it keeps the instruments finish from being ripped off.

That is cool. Do you have pics of your hangers? It would be cool to see how you made them. 😀

I have not researched this question...and actually would be surprised if there is any scientific research comparing the neck-hanger and floor stand options...but I have a purely intuitive rule. I never pick up or hold a guitar by the neck.

Wood swells & shrinks maybe daily as it ages. And especially for older guitars, the screw holes begin to erode with each dis-assembly. I see vulnerability at the neck joint, even for set necks, and just would not hang my guitars. I have one guitar stand and the guitar I'm playing at the moment may stay there for a day or two.

Bottom line, leaving guitars out of the case for any length of time gradually compromises the integrity of the wood and also each spot where two pieces of wood are joined.

I know this sounds a bit rigid & preachy.... 🙄 ...whatever you choose, enjoy the music!

I understand that concern. I have that as well. What a friend of mine told me (who has more guitars than I and is an engineer) is that the tension on the neck from the strings pulls forward on the neck greater than the weight of the guitar typically. Hanging it from the headstock pulls backwards on the neck. He said this method of storing actually takes strain off of the neck since it pulls the neck in the other direction. His stuff has been hanging that ways for years. Floor stands seem to put more forward pressure since the guitar is resting on the back of the neck putting more force forward. Either seems to work, so I am thinking guitars (at least bolt on ones) are tough enough to handle either setting.
