My guitar is a japanese jaguar with 2 single coil pick ups. I'm considering putting a dimarzio humbucker in the bridge position..My friend who has been going to school for guitar repair and maintenence is going to sell me the humbucker for $25 and put it in for free. He's been doing electronics, etc for 6 years but it's the only guitar and I'm a little hesistant. I need the pickup changed for sure and a humbucker is definitly what I want for my style of playing. I have a band and we're booked for shows soon I just want my guitar up to my standards by then because I'm sick of playing my drummers strat I'm also really broke so this seems like a good idea to me and I've seen some of the work hes done on guitars and he seems to know what he's talking about. My question is how difficult is it to modify a guitar this way? Thanks.
To do this he would:
Enlarge the pickup hole with a router.
Enlarge your pickguard with a router for a humbucker sized pickup or order a new custom one.
If you trust his routing skills it isn't too hard to do. If he messed up the routing, it could get messy.
