I'm new to these forums. I couldn't resist ringing in when I found all the in-depth discussion here. I used to own an original '69 Mustang some years ago. It was stolen and I later moved from the US to my current country of residence, Taiwan.
Well, the story begins with me accidentally seeing one of the new Jaguar Classic Player Special HH's. It's basically the guitar I'd been waiting my whole life to see. I just love the idea of putting the dual humbuckers in there and splitting them, and being able to use single or double coil, and well, all that butter...
Enter the problem: Taiwan's Fender distributor has run out of these Jaguar CPS-HH's, and is saying, they may never get any more of them. Even when they ARE here, they're commanding a king's ransom, somewhere around $1500-USD a pop.
Online retailers in the US won't send these things overseas, because of some kind of "distribution contract" with Fender. So, scratch the idea of buying one of these beauties for $799-USD on eBay.
So, yesterday, I was browsing through the Taiwanese Yahoo.com auction site and ran into a Jaguar HJG-66KC VI being sold at the equivalent of about $630-USD. On the surface, it looks similar, dual humbuckers, nice sunburst finish, it even has the added bonus of a bound fretboard, and some extra chome on the knobs.
So, here's my question. After seeing the Jaguar CPS-HH in action, loving the sounds that you can get tweaking the single-dual coil configs, a neck pocket with increased back-angle for improved stability and sustain, and the new tremolo plate design... How close would the HJG-66KC VI get to this? I know it probably sounds insane to some people, being that the HJG-66KC VI is selling for over $1500 online in the states, while the CPS-HH is half that price. But, I really love the original single-coil sound of the Jaguar, but also love the crunch you can get out of dual humbuckers.
Any suggestions?
