My boyfriend has either a phase-2 or phase-3(most likely the latter) Univox hi flier. Someone told him he needed a new bridge, pickup ring,etc and took everything off except the pickups and basically left him with an unusable guitar. So I took it to my guitar tech friend and he said the bridge and everything were fine but the bridge p-up ring was a little small. He found out today the neck p-up doesnt work at all(Im pretty sure its stock). Is it most likely because this guitar is 40 years old? Do pickups die often and how long do they usually last? He doesnt really use the neck p-up just the bridge will it sound ok if he kept the dead neck p-up in and just used the bridge p-up till he can find a new one he likes? What p-up would work good as a neck p-up in a univox? Also is there anyone way you can date a univox? I heard their records were destroyed and their impossible to date. When he bought it the original owner said it was a phase 2 but my friend says its a phase 3.
