No, the saddle to saddle width should be wider than the string spacing at the nut, have a look at any guitar and you'll notice that the neck gets thinner the closer to the head you are (except maybe on some classical guitars). Measurements vary from guitar to guitar and I couldn't tell you any more than that really, sorry.
