Customizing a Jagstang

I bought a 96 Fiesta red JS and I was wondering if stripping it down, fixing the dents, and repainting it sonic blue would be a good idea. Obviously the sonic blue model is more desirable but would it hurt the value if i did this. And since I'm a die hard Nirvana fan I want to put a red tortoise shell pickguard on it (to resemble Kurt's Mustang).

It is doable. Fender's paint is pretty hardcore. Some people sand and sand, some use heat to strip the paint. Be very careful though because basswood is very soft and I hear is hard to refinish. You could just buy a Sonic Blue body from warmoth.com and transfer your neck and other parts to it instead and keep the body somewhere nice and safe. I might do that with mine. 😀

Poly paint is a pain to strip from these bodies. I suggest checking out a guy on Ebay called reliablefender. He's got a couple of Sonic Blue bodies for sale. Save you the trouble.
