Apologies if a post like this exists already...
I need some help from those more expert than myself on the Mustang. I recently bought a 66 Mustang body and want to rebuild it, and to be able to use it and not just have it hanging pretty on the wall.
The bodys in quiet good shape, mostly just wear marks which is fine (its white, well now rather yellow). It needs some work as it was routed for a third active pickup, but the woodwork is no problem to restore it back to how it should be but except to leave space for a bridge humbucker.
The problem i have is to understand if RI parts are useable without drilling or having to punish the body at all by doing a fill-drill on it. i'm kind of got the feeling i'm going to have to use authentic parts (tailpiece, scratchplate, control plate) as otherwise the holes dont line up.
With regards the neck also, i'm kind of at a loss as to what neck I can use on it, but as i said i want to use it (play in pub band in italy with a Strat)... but also keep it as authentic as possible..
The guy who sold it to me said it was a 1966 body, and i've no reason to doubt it as it doesnt have the comfort space in it which i think was introduced in '69, just one slab of wood. in the neck space theres is some barely discernable writing (72, a batch number maybe?, and i'm sure theres a stamp of a circle with a C in it)...
I'd really appreciate any advice you guys can give me, and thanks ever so much in advance....i'll post pics of the body and on the progress...
