I'm not an expert by any means but I try to stay current on vintage guitars. If you check Vintage Guitar Magazine you'll find lots of ads for 1960s Mustangs. Most ads have brief info on the condition and the price.
Lately it seems 1960s Mustangs are selling for $1100 to $2000. Those are the better ones that vintage dealers prefer to trade in: 100% original, minimal repairs done excellently by respected luthiers, often with original hardshell cases.
A few sell for $700 to $1100. These have been refinished, or have had major repairs, or parts replaced. In this group... and often near the lower price point...are vintage Mustangs that have been "upgraded" or hot rodded.
I got my 1965 Mustang, 100% original, in very good (8.5 outa 10) condition, with OHSC for $875 in 2009 (it might be $950 today). A great price because it had been refinished in correct Dakota Red. But if it had been refinished in a period-incorrect color, like black, it would have sold for $700 plus...(today maybe for close to $800).
Also, watch Ebay but those prices can vary widely, especially upwards of true value. Many Ebay prices are based on the hopes for profit rather than on competent appraisals.
I'd suggest taking yours to a vintage guitar specialist and get it appraised...you may decide it's an investment worth keeping for a while. Or if you choose to sell, carefully refinish it in a period-correct paint (Dakota Red, Daphne Blue, or White) and you'll get more for it. I believe Daphnes fetch the most money. But be sure to disclose it's been refinished.
