hey guys,
Ive got a vintage white MIJ Mustang, that ive modded with a cool rails in the bridge and a seymour duncan ssl-6 in the neck
As far as an overdrive tone, it is ballsy as anything, although my clean tone has suffered and as a result has lost the "fender tone", or that "ring" that is common to its single coil sound
Thing is, I love the mustang, not only for its neck and feel, but the pickup phasing, being able to turn off each pickup individually, so I can still utilize the single coil at ease.
What ive found with the ssl-6 pickup, is that it sounds compressed and bassy, and from playing my dads guitar, (60's reissue strat with texas specials), it has that standalone "fender ring".
I would have ended up switching the ssl-6 back to the original mustang pup, but the stock pups have a low output compared to the cool rails.
My question, What seymour duncan pickup is the equivalent to the texas special pickup?
if anyone has any suggestions or thoughts, please let me know.
cheers
zane.
