Hello everyone! I am new here but I have been a jaguar "enthusiast" for a long time. I own a japanese made 90's jaguar with a few modifications. I changed the pick ups to some seymour duncan quarter pounders (no cheese), and I changed the bridge to a mustang bridge. Well the point is that even after I changed the pick ups I still get a lot of feedback when attempting to use a slightly loud distortion or any slight high pitch sound...The only thing that has almost work is to turn all the nobs on my fender deVille amp to 0 but the sound it produces is kinda muddy...Does anyone have any tips to getting a decent sound and avoid the feedback? Any feed back will be welcome. Thank you...

You could try the Spitfire technique, deep fry your entire p/up in wax.

Well, "shielding", although there should already be a big lump under the scratchplate as it is (I think, mine did, but I bought mine from Gavin, so ask him) but if not, then I'm pretty sure how it's made, I've never had to do it so I've never paid much attention, but if you look under pickguards of other guitars you'll generally notice a foil like sheet stuck to it.

sheilding is for cutting down on interference. nothing to do with stopping feedback. the only way to stop feedback, is to

a. wax pot the pups

b. use less gain. or

c. use an anti feedbacker pedal

i dunno if those noise gates are the same thing. but the pedal on my GT-6 is called an "anti-feeback". it has 3 frequencies and 3 depths. all independently adjustable between 0-100. i dunno how those work really. so i just switch it on, with a preset setting. basically, it removes all feedback, no matter how high the gain or overall volume

i think noise gates are for cutting down on all the buzzing in the line created by stringing boxes together on the floor. like the gate always goes at the end of the string to cut down on all the box noise.

i would go with what rick is talking about.

my friend always used to complain about his guitar when playing shows until i told his ass to just turn around and be a man. face the audience. you will feedback more if you are playing to the drummer trying to keep his dumbass going.

Seymour Duncan vacuum pot their Jaguar pickups (at least that what they claim). Vacuum potting locks the coils in place with a thin coating of wax, so thin you won't even see it unless you rough it up with your finger nail (best avoided). If you get uncontrollable microphonic feedback from a Jaguar it may not even be the pickup itself but something in the pickup assembly (the cover, claw, or wire for example) resonating and causing the problem.

The ultimate solution is, as Gavin said, to 'deep fry' the whole shebang (claws covers and all) in wax. Either make a double boiler and buy some wax or get a tech to do it for you. Trust me, if you are beset by loud squealing either put the kids up for adoption or pot them pups.

Sounds like a feedback supressor, similar to what you use in larger PA systems. It basically recognises the feedback and dynamically EQs out that frequency band until the feedback has subsided. They work well but it's best to address the fundamental problem rather than the symptoms.

Last night, what I did and got some pretty decent result, I just lowered the distortion and I turned up the presence on my deVille, and set the high at 3, the lows at 0 and mids at 1...and it sounded very nice, I still got some feedback but it was the uuuuuuu type which is okay rather than the eeeeeeee one that is kinda anoying...
