Hey, Moose, congratulations on your new Duo-Sonic!
I have one and love it. It's lighter than my Mustang and plays just as well with a similar feel to it. The action and intonation are great and I love the neck. 🙄 To me, the Mustang and Duo-Sonic are comparable in quality and playability but the Mustang has more cachet and can be priced higher.
I'm playin 10 guage strings on both guitars. The Duo-Sonic pickups give me all the tones I want, Woman Tone, Brown Tone, Tele Twang, Dirty Blues. I did raise the treble side of my neck pickup a bit to get more high E ooomph when I'm playin Woman Tone (neck pup only, guitar tone dialed way down, amp gain at seven). The main difference with the Mustang is the out-of-phase option which gives it the ability to produce a sharper twang that can become a quack 🤷 with the bridge pup-only and tone all teh way up...fun to play with.
I'm playin through a Peavey Classic 30 but this DS also sounds beefy through my practice-travel amp, a 1999 Danelectro HT 50 Honeytone (not the plastic honeytones that are current).
One thing is that when you get yours...and you may well know this...get a professional set-up unless you can do this yourself. Intonation can be tricky on DSs because the bridge is one barrel for two strings...vintage style.
