The hum is indeed normal for any standard single coil pick-up,for a standard output non potted single coil the neck in jagstang is pretty good as far as stock pups go.Seing as you are going a JB in the bridge, which are pretty hot.You ant to get something for the neck that is not going to underpowered, so you have good balance between the neck and bridge.Im using "Fender Vintage Noiseless" in my custom, which are a humbucking single,they sound pretty good, great ouput (9.8k) which works great with a 16k ish humbucker in the bridge. However you do loose some of the classic single coil spank compared to true single coils,they sound more like a cross between a humbucker and a single.It all depends if your happy to trade the true single coil tone for zero noise. You can find a nice hot standard single coil to match up nicely with JB, but as its going to have to be nearly twice as hot as the standard to keep up with the jb, its gonna be noisy, most likley more so than the stock one.
