soloing please helpp!

ok well i kinda can solo not well and this is my main question... when you solo you play one lick and then you go higher or lower on the fretboard and solo there and come back or whatever and how do you know like what goes with what (where to go on the fretboard)... wehn i try it doesnt flow like the other solos ive heard... can anyone help? if not is there a book i can buy? thanks a bunch

You don't know your scales, you don't know the notes on the guitar and you can't play by ear...yet, you feel you are ready to jump into face-melting solos....interesting...

From my learning you ussually switch the scale when the rythm chords change. I'm not much of a lead guitarist either though, so I may be wrong.

You need to just practice and learn your scales

My old guiar teacher's site - go to contact, then scale patterns are in there that you can print off. It takes practice, a lot of it.

That's called vertical playing, that's what made Hendrix famous as a guitar player, where he played the pentatonic (major or minor) scale for each chord. I reckon Little Wing is the most "obvious" example of that.

Well it depends how good you are at doing it, Hendrix "wasn't bad" at it 😛 it's vertainly more difficult than playing horizontally (one scale over a number of chords - sorry to those who knew that)

What I was getting at that just moving the same scale around to the relevant chord's key sounds bad- you'll have to switch from major to minor if chords do.

Dude, I learned solos the wrong way, I listened to Nirvana. And then imatated Kurt. Going where ever the hell I want on the fretboard and fast.

But technique as far with soloing I have a long way to go. I can do some of it, but not all. The best I can do is War Pigs solos.

If you notice your solos dont "flow" properly, you may just want to practice your rythm with a metronome. Dont let these guys discourage you, everyone has to start somewhere.
