it's hard to tell without being able to play the guitar myself. but make sure that both thick and thin E strings are about 3mm above the 17th fret. if they still buzz, you should try thicker strings. it's also possible that it could be the neck, but that is very unlikely. it's also possible the frets need dressing, but that is also very unlikely. how old is the mustang?
