Jaguar question

Hey, hope this is the right place to post this.

My Jaguar's tremolo bit broke so i had to take it apart and put it back together. Underneath the tremolo in the gap where it sits is a wire that is attached to nothing and i can't figure out why it is there, I can't check if it's working because I'm waiting for new strings. But is there a reason why there is a wire attached to nothing underneath the tremolo bit?

You mean like an electric wire? That wire is the ground wire for the electronics, it runs through the body to the main control cavities and is likely wired to one of the sheilds, pots, or output jack on the lower treble side.

It comes from the left knob through a little gap in the body which must have been made for it, but doesn't lead anywhere. Is it supposed to be attached to something?

It needs to be sandwitched between the body and the metal plate to ground your strings and bridge. If you look around the edge of the routing, you should see a little indent from where it was like the picture below.

That's the string ground. It contacts the vibrato plate so it can contact something that contacts the strings. It grounds the strings against unwanted radio-frequency humbuzz. Without it, your guitar will make a lot of extra humbuzz, which will mysteriously stop when you touch the strings, and start again when you don't.
