To start off my day- I was awoken by the sound of a car pulling out of my driveway. The time. 9:10 am. I put on my shoes and run outside to find a gigantic box. I bring it inside and start to open it. American Musical Supply did an excellent job packing- there was no way this guitar was getting damaged. It was in a case, in a small box, packed inside a gigantic box.
I grab the DVD that came with the order (AMS bonus). I've seen the show before but now have it on DVD! Open the bag with the Kurt Cobain book- it was a neat little read, full of photos, and a few interviews- one of which was Nirvana's guitar tech. Then I finally come to the case and all of the warranty info:
Moving that aside- this is a very nice and sturdy case. I can see gigging with it and not worrying. After opening the case I find the guitar in all of it's battered glory. I wasn't sure what to expect- I'd seen pictures but I didn't know how I'd react in person. But it is very beautiful and the dents, dings, chips and dirt give the guitar a lot of character. Surprisingly, the neck still feels incredibly new despite all of the dents in it. I need to some time to break it in!
It actually comes with a relic'd trem bar as well which was a nice touch. First impressions were good- it feels great, its lightweight but feels incredibly durable. Had some issues tuning it- but it was close to 100 outside and its about 65 inside. It's finally settled in and staying in tune very well now. The pickups sound amazing, just what I was looking for. I quickly ran through many of my bands songs (original and covers) and of course played a few Nirvana tunes.
I had to adjust to the switches and things, buts very useful. I love to do killswitch effects- and I can do it much easier with this guitar. I can keep the neck volume up by the 3 way toggle, and I keep the other neck volume off by the switch- so that way when I activate the switch it is silent allowing me to have a nice killswitch and still use my neck pickup if need be.
I'll record some video clips- but It'll be a few days before I can upload them. For now the pics will have to do the talking. It's cloudy outside so they were taken in the guest bedroom at my mom's house.
