I bought a 69 ri mustang secondhand and got it today, I noticed that the guitar has been altered to have a tom and the trem has been attempted to be locked down with the bolt and washer method. The cigar tube was leaning so far forward that if you were to put a bar in it would be hitting the body so I took it apart and noticed that the screws were replaced by bolts with the head of the bolts down in the body cavity. He has the springs attatched to these bolts but they are not held in place by anything so they are able basically to slide up and down the grooves of the bolt if you hit the bar. Im pretty sure this is incorrect but my question is are you supposed to put a nut or something on the screw to keep it from doing this or what? Ive looked at all the trem lock posts and I understand the general concept but am a little confused still. I wish it was just a stock bridge and posts but neither of those came with the guitar so im stuck trying to fix this. If anyone can give me a better idea better of this concept please do.
